Oh Katharine!

I had to post these pictures of Katharine Hepburn's estate in Old Saybrook, CT. I remember reading about this estate in Architectural Digest many years back when it looked quite different. A bit dated, dark and cluttered if I remember but it was all Hepburn, so loved just the same.

The new owners have done a beautiful job renovating the home, while keeping the memories- you can even see in one of the pictures a book with Ms. Hepburn gracing the cover.

Charming and Surprising Find in Newport Beach

California is known for blending architectural styles- you find tuscan meets colonial in Beverly Hills, modern meets cottage in Laguna Beach and this house in Newport Beach seems to blend Bucks County, Pennsylvania with the clean lines of Newport Beach's oceanside homes. From the outside, this house is charming and a little grand with a mixture of stone, clapboard and brick but on the inside- there are some really fun surprises!

I love this balcony tucked into the exterior facade- you often see this in shingle style homes. Very charming detail but also a great, shady spot.

The front facade is more formal with the third floor dormers and the proportion of the front porch is great- doesn't over power the house but big enough to greet guests.

Great kitchen- it isn't easy to mix so many materials like this. They use brick, clapboard, slate and hardwoods and then to add a fun twist trimmed the inside, as the outside.

This is a great detail too- a wall to create privacy and provide a sound barrier but with clear glass and thick trim mullions, you get two divided spaces.

Very cute little guesthouse, exercise room or studio.

I wish I could give credit to the architect and design team- they deserve it! Anybody know who deserves the credit???

Waterworks announces new line!

We met with Waterworks yesterday in Denver to view their new STUDIO line.

Studio offers the same quality plumbing fixtures, with a more simplified design- which allows them to reach the consumer in just 2-3 days at a much better price! Limited only by two finishes- polished chrome and polished nickel. The design and performance is the same Waterworks reputation that keeps them on our wishlist. The above faucet is my favorite- the Roadster Low Profile Faucet.

Here is a picture of my favorite detail- the monogram H and C insignia on each handle.

There is also a stone collection- delivered in the same timeline of just 2-3 days! The stone comes in Oyster White, Graphite and Dessert Cream. The Graphite is gorgeous in person- a gray/taupe blend, not like any marble I know. This collection comes in subway tile, field tile, mosaics, chair rail and a great baseboard tile.

Waterworks didn't quit while they were ahead- they included accessories and linens in their new line too. The Palm Springs accessories are fabulous.

Well done Waterworks! We loved the line and very much appreciate the spec book as a very useful tool.
